Taxi Wars

Did you guys hear about the Taxi Wars game that was released by iLogic?
It caused quite a stir with racial attacks being one of them.

Apparently the Taxi industry claims it will also hurt their image with the general population.

Guess what taxi's!! Your image is no more tarnished than it already was with your harsh overtaking, overloading, speeding, illegal stops in front of other motorists and just plain and simple, your general disregard for other road users every single day.

So if you want to beat up a taxi driver to release some stress and anger, get clicking:

Happy smacking....

Entertainment update

Just last week I sat with Neil and a member of management at Grandwest to discuss the possible way forward for Jackson Hall.

I will not go into the messy details of what went down, but will say that the verdict was given that the DJs at Jackson Hall including myself stop playing the latest hits and RnB, HipHop and stick to only Jazz, Old School dance (10 years and older) and some commercial dance. This is to promote the Hanover Street complex across the way.

Their take on it is this, why should people pay R30 to get into Hanover Street Nightclub if Jackson Hall Pub plays the same music and has the same drinks and prices with absolutely no cover charge.
True.

If you ask me, I'll save R30 and sit upstairs in Jackson Hall with a couple of beers and my handy pack of Rothmans Mild.

So they are trying the following. They have hired the one of the best names in the DJing industry Tony Smith to pump the Hanover Street dance Floor.
In my honest opinion, it is futile without something else to drag Cape Towns clubbers to HS.
They have a cover charge, parking fee and a distance to walk before getting to the club and then the strict rules on smoking areas.

I sat there watching Tony and this is not a good thing to happen to a DJ. Been given an empty dance floor to fill up from literally nothing. and no matter how influential and well-off your buds may be, Capetonians will always try to skimp a few bucks on their entertainment. So even Tony will have trouble filling up this place, event though he has some weight thrown behind him from Stan Mars (Heart FM)

This weekend was a prime example, but I must say that JHall on Friday was one of the best nights of my 10 year long DJ career. The crowd was awesome and very receptive and I didn't rely on the latest hits to get them going.

I was even shocked when played some old classics that most DJs dare not play to avid losing rep with the audience.

Friday night I got the hugest response from playing Lou Rawls, Jose Feliciano, Skyy, Van McCoy and old Michael Jackson hits in my closing hour.

Surprised, I am not.
Bewildered, I am...

More updates later in the month with progress.

Easter Weekend

Not good to say so, but for all the Pagans, the celebrations don't stop this Friday and Saturday at Jackson Hall.

Neil (from the band Flat Stanley) and friends play some chords on the guitar for the early evening while you dine at the lavish Jackson Hall.
DJ Richie plays a fine blend of classic jazz tunes and RnB to get your drinks moving through your system.
After 10pm, the Coyote girls (& guy) arrive with their smoking buns... err... I meant guns, to stir up things a little on the bar.

The party then starts rocking till late with all your favourite tunes from the music case of DJ Richie and friends.

Oh, before I forget, there may be prizes to be given away at the bar, so be there early!

Jackson Hall Friday night!!

Hey guys, once again I'll be playing at Jackson Hall inside Grandwest Casino this weekend.
If you still do not kow what I play or how crappy I play, tune into the following mix tape I uploaded in WMA format.

Start streaming:

Now last week saw nearly 80% of the patrons as single hot blooded females and I could not touch a single one (couldnt get my wedding ring off in time).

So this week I am begging some guys to show up and swoop some ladies off their feet before they never return again.

As usual, we have the Coyote girls up on the bar around 11pm, with guest MC's in the house and myself Vinyl Richie entertaining you till around 2am.

Remember, leave your bad manners and inhibitions at home.

Drive safely.

Kandi Kru News

Hi guys... and gals

You may know that I have recently started focusing on the KandiKru concept.

In preparation for the launch to take place within the next 2 months (May 2007), I have setup the website, a forum and a blog to keep guys up to date with what's happening in all things Kandi.

The forum is basically a way for me to start the online community of entertainment seekers, young and old (no offence to those who deems themselves old) for those who love parties, motoring events, fashion shows, afternoon braais and cruises and other activities that people find entertaining.

This way I get to know what you guys in general want in the form of entertainment.
Also by registering, you get to meet other people online as well that may share your interests.

You log into the KandiKru forums here

The website is well, heavily under construction.
It has taken longer than expected but will be up and running as soon the official launch takes place.

For reference, the site is kandikru.co.za.

Ciao

Kandikru listens

Here is a bit of market research.

What do you look for in a venue when going out to party?
Is it the quality of toilets?
Is it the music?
The people?
Smoking rules?
Drinks prices?
The sound system?
The area?

What makes you love or hate a place?
What makes you wanna stay?

Leave a comment or drop me a mail.

Finally, we ready to roll... somewhat.

Here we are.

Webslinger Deejays goes online officially, if you consider that I had/have a few other website trying to promote it like www.geocities.com/webslinger as well as www.djrichie.tk more recently.

Please note, however the flash website is still currently under construction. Give me a little more time to complete.

KandiKru was a concept that began in the mid to late nineties with Damian, Russel, Ian and myself. We started out DJing at the time (myself being the more experienced then) at Bistro, a quaint little restaurant/bar with nightclub downstairs in the basement.

The place lost its touch through the years, but we were too happy to be there and play for the experience. At the time I spent more on getting exposure than actually actually getting paid. I purchased music and paid the rest of the guys from my own pocket. It was ridiculous, but I promised that I would not treat them the way I was when I first started in the industry.

When Bistro closed down, we turned mobile at selected places only. Purely because we wanted the same people to follow us. It was a small amount at the time, but they were loyal. Most of us will remember the days we had parties in my parents backyard just having a jol, Owen and his kak talk, Russel missing an eyebrow, damian with his smooth bek and poor Candice getting bowled by any and every man.

Shame, she couldnt breathe at times.

But any way, I wanted to revive that spirit of Kandi Kru. Kandi Kru meaning a lekker crowd (no pun intended, but that was the idea. Seriously)

Now I plan on doing so.

Online I hope to start a web community where you can chat online with others, purchase music, keep an eye on all events in your area, keep tabs on your favourite DJs (even those not affiliated with our kru. So get your DJ buddies to submit a profile to me) and simply create a lekker community.

My new crew of co-presenters for the Podcast and videocast are my crazy brother Sean and even crazier brother in law Ashley. Together we will higlight and film and document all things entertaining and fun in Cape Town.

We have already documented the Maxpower Unleashed at Killarney where we met some strange characters and enjoyed the racing and girls and cars and..... you get the picture.

Drop me a line and I shall provide you with a copy of the VCD for the day.

So there.

Thats what I am about. A lekker time, with lekker people and lekker chicks just living the lekker life.

So help me make your life a little more interesting.
